Today we remember and pay homage to Giles Corey. Just a few hundred feet from where our museum is located, Giles Corey was taken from the Salem Jail and escorted to a open field where he was pressed to death with heavy stones, in an effort to force him to stand trial. The torture lasted two agonizing days before he succumbed to the pressure of the stones on this day, September 19th, 330 years ago. His final words were “more weight”.
