New York City’s oldest standing bridge, the High Bridge opened in June of 1848 as part of the 41-mile Old Croton Aqueduct. At the time, the bridge was deemed an engineering marvel, enabling the delivery of clean water to NYC, catalyzing the city’s development and expansion! Today, it serves as a vital link between communities on both sides of the Harlem River in The Bronx and Manhattan.
