The Kansas African American Museum, formerly the venerable Calvary Baptist Church was once the cornerstone of Wichita’s vibrant black community. It was built in 1917 when the congregation’s leaders worked nights and weekends -separate and apart from their jobs to finish the church.

Now, TKAAM recognizes the perseverance and achievements of these leaders at its dazzling Broadcast and Streaming event, A Tribute to Trailblazers.

Ted Ayres is board immediate past president for The Kansas African American Museum in Wichita and serves on the executive committee and the audit committee of the Kansas Historical Society.

TKAAM's Education Department's mission is to educate ALL individuals through transformative educational programming and opportunities to encourage the appreciation and understanding of Kansas African American history, art, context and meaning.
