I’ve wondered the same thing because it seems odd to me that “yes” is proper while “yeah” is informal when considering that “Ja” is yes in German, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Estonian (though spelled with an h at the end) Afrikaans, Icelandic, and Latvian.

2022年6月2日 · No I mean they say it literally while the other is talking, when the other person pauses, they pause, when the other starts to talk again, they come back with the "Yeah" or "Okay" every few seconds. I fully understand letting someone know you're listening, but saying "Yeah" or "Okay" 100 times make it seem like they're not listening at all.
