SCRSWS provides 3 different self-haul disposal locations for trash, recycling, and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off: All facilities are closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas.

Spokane County residents have three clean, one-stop drop-off locations for recyclables, household hazardous wastes, yard wastes, and trash. The City of Spokane operates the Waste to Energy Facility Recycling & Disposal Site, 2900 S. Geiger Blvd. The facility is located west of downtown Spokane across from the Washington State Patrol office.

The Colbert Landfill is located approximately 2.5 miles north of Colbert, Washington, and approximately 15 miles north of Spokane, Washington. The closed landfill is surrounded primarily by rural residential development and open lands. The area south of the site contains forested lands, open fields, and a few residential homes.

Mica Landfill is an approximately 161-acre site that partially overlies the Aquifer Sensitive Area of the Spokane-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer, which was designated as a “Sole source Aquifer” in 1978 and provides drinking water to over 400,000 people.

The City of Spokane owns the site and has operated the active municipal solid waste landfill since 1931. A 15-acre portion is in use as active landfill cells. As active cells fill and close, new cells on site will be constructed, permitted, and opened for use.
