2005年3月14日 · I have decided to buy a new Ruger Super Blackhawk. I had one several years ago and really liked it. I noticed that they are now offering it with a fluted cylinder and rounded trigger gaurd. My question is, can I handload the hot loads like I used to for my unfluted model and be safe in the fluted cylinder. Thanks for any help.

2006年6月18日 · I enjoy the look of unfluted cylinders on Revolvers. I am planning on buying an M1895 Nagant revolver and I just recently got a look at it with a custom unfluted conversion cylinder. To me, it looked absolutely wonderful. So, my question is, would it be possible for a gunsmith to fill in the fluting and make a it into a nice, smooth round cylinder?

2018年2月20日 · McGowen Rifles states that two identical barrels, one fluted & one unfluted, the unfluted barrel is stiffer than the fluted. Reason they state is the unfluted barrel has more mass therefore stiffer. Your thoughts as the only fluted barrel rifle I have is a Win.

2019年1月5日 · Apart from "the look" coolness factor which I think is why such a barrel is really bought - regarding cooling by dissipating heat into the atmosphere and contributing to global warming the principle would be that there must be a marked increase of the barrel surface.

2007年3月18日 · I bought a new cylinder (S&W part from Brownell's). It is the unfluted style, and a drop-in fit except that the gap between the cylinder chamber and the forcing cone is slightly more than with the original cylinder. Anybody know how to adjust the cylinder gap? Also, any knowledge of shorter barrel life on the Mountain Gun model?

2011年11月8日 · Rigidity increases as the square of the diameter of a cylinder, so heavier barrels are harder to bend. Shorter and fatter barrels are least affected by recoil whipping. A fluted barrel is more rigid than an unfluted barrel of the same length and weight and material.

2001年1月9日 · Yup, sighed in for 50 yards there was enough room on the sight, but not by much. At best only 1 or perhaps 2 clicks left. The gun is the Classic Hunter 686 made a number of years back. Limited run, not sure how many came out. Anyway, it's got a standard full-lug 6" barrel and unfluted cylinder.

2006年7月4日 · My intention is to get a 5 shot cylinder. As the questionably high pressure loads that I have seen shot through a 6 shot cylinder, the steel was blued, and the cylinder was fluted. My steel is Stainless, and it is unfluted. I'm not near the pressures they were, as I see no reason to go THAT high. I'm also not after taking game.

2010年2月22日 · I have a 3" SP101 and if I could that would be the load I would use. But that is too hot for me. As crazy as this sounds, I would carry the 150 grain hard cast wadcutter .38 special standard pressure from Buffalo Bore.
