2009年10月27日 · Layering the rice hulls over the false bottom is the wrong way to use them. You are correct they are supposed to be mixed into the mash to help keep it loose and the grain in suspension. I too at first thought that it would be best to cover the false bottom with the rice hulls.

2014年11月13日 · There is no need to develop a special technique for using rice hulls. Half a pound in with the mash for a 5 gallon batch works perfectly fine. No pre-soaking or heating required. I simply include the rice hulls in my recipe in Beersmith and follow the instructions the program spits out for strike temps and volume.

2016年8月18日 · Rice hulls are added to the grain to help replace husks that are missing because your using wheat or rye, those adjusts don't have hulls. The concept isn't to recirculate faster per se just to let you recirculate wort in a thin (less filter material) bed that will be a bit gummy.

2010年7月24日 · But, I'm perfectly happy with a .035" gap on my mill. I don't need rice hulls unless I"m doing a "sticky" beer, like using oats or wheat. The wheat and oats don't have husks, so they can really gum up the works and not set up a filter bed like barley does. To help with draining, the hulls "fill in" for the husks.

2018年6月7日 · Never needed them for my Hefeweizen's or Wit's, and I crush with a credit card gap thickness .030 for all my grains. Wheat being smaller definitely do not start with .045. If you do use rice hulls, as day_tripper said, I would wet and drain them a few times to rinse them and get them presoaked. Rev.

2021年6月1日 · Rice hulls alone make strong rice flavored tea. Whatever ratio of rice hulls you use, make a cup with a similar ratio with mash temperature water and taste it! I purchased rice hulls from 4 different suppliers with the same awful flavor.

2008年8月25日 · You don't need any rice hulls for this recipe, they only really become useful when over 35% or so of your mash is made up of hull-less grain (wheat, rye, rolled oats). I don't use rice hulls unless I have 40% or so hull-less grain, and have had success without them at even 50%. Rice hulls for a five gallon batch are usually only about 1/2 or 1 ...

2014年1月12日 · IBut I have to say that a pound of rice hulls is a LOT! I mean, I use two handfulls in a 10 gallon batch and that is probably less than .25 pound as the rice hulls weigh nothing. I buy three pounds at a time, and it lasts me about a year! If your recipe is 75% wheat, it may be beneficial but you may not need nearly a pound in most 5 gallon recipe.s
