2020年4月12日 · With that protrusion and bowl size, you're probably looking at low 16s. As far as piston-to-valve clearance, you should at least take the required measurements and run them through Hamilton's calculator if you're not going to actually check piston-to-valve.

It was several years ago i rebuilt mine so i do not remember if the manual gave any min or max values, just if it is above x amount of protrusion use the thick gasket, and below use the thin gasket.

2023年2月13日 · I measured my piston protrusion over the wrist pin as the manual instructs and had a couple of pistons that are a bit out of spec coming in with a total protrusion of 0.022". The service manual says that min protrusion is 0.006" and max is 0.019" and if you are outside this range then you have a problem.

Upon assembling the short block I am getting .008” of difference between my lowest piston and highest, when measuring protrusion at tdc.

2018年8月11日 · Reason I ask is because upon reassembly of changing my head gasket, I checked the tip protrusion on each injector before putting the head in. They were all WAY outside of the tolerance range according to Cummins repair manual. I ordered the 2.5 mm thick seals and this just barely got me within the tolerance range.
