Tisarana is a monastery in the Thai forest tradition of Theravāda Buddhism. It is located 15km from Perth in the countryside a little more than an hour south-west of Ottawa, Canada. The monastery is a residence for Buddhist monks and those who wish to train as Buddhist monks.

Tisarana is a monastery in the Thai forest tradition. Situated in rural settings rather than urban centres, these monasteries are focused on the Buddha’s path of contemplative insight. A strong emphasis is also placed on following the original monastic rules laid down by the Buddha.

Tisarana is primarily a monastery devoted to the training of monks and laity in the Forest Tradition of Theravāda Buddhism. You are welcome to visit, either briefly or for the day.

Tisarana Buddhist Monastery is located in the countryside a little more than an hour south-west of Ottawa, Canada. It was established in 2007 by Luang Por Viradhammo, who remains the abbot of the monastery.

Tisarana Buddhist Monastery has been a central presence in the midst of Buddhist Communities in the Ottawa Area and the GTA for nearly 15 years. Our physical infrastructure is well established with kutis built around the property, a Bhikkhu Vihara constructed in 2012 and the main house providing accommodations to lay guests.

These monasteries, under the guidance of many of Ajahn Chah’s senior Western disciples, are allowing the profound benefits of the Buddha’s original teachings, preserved in the Forest tradition for 2500 years, to accompany Buddhism as it spreads throughout the Western world.

2014年3月12日 · In the summer of 2006, the monks visited the newly-acquired property on which their future vihara–monastery–would be built. The monastery they envisioned would be called Tisarana, and would be one of only three monasteries dedicated to the Thai forest tradition of Buddhism in Canada.
