Plant Physiology is a journal of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), a prestigious non-profit founded in 1924 to promote the growth and development of plant biology. With members on six continents, it serves plant biologists around the world through its publications, conferences, outreach, and advocacy.

Plant physiology interacts with the fields of plant morphology (structure of plants), plant ecology (interactions with the environment), phytochemistry (biochemistry of plants), cell biology, genetics, biophysics and molecular biology.

Plant physiology focuses on the chemistry and physics of how plants function. Plants capture light energy and produce sugars through photosynthesis and break down these sugars through aerobic cellular respiration.
