It's tempting to start a project plan in Excel because it helps you quickly list all your projects, arrange them how you want them, and even create something that resembles a Gantt Chart view. But a spreadsheet falls short when it comes to calculating changes to your project.

Show the critical path to see what tasks affect the finish date the most. See the critical path in a Gantt Chart, any task view, or even in a master project.

On the Gantt chart, click a task and click Task and the percentage complete you want to show. For example, to show a task as 25 completed, click Task > 25% Complete . To see the task progress, point to the dark line inside the bar.
