Las Virgenes Road / Malibu Canyon Road is a north–south road that runs for 11 miles (18 km) and traverses the Santa Monica Mountains, connecting the San Fernando Valley and U.S. Route 101 with California State Route 1 and Malibu, all in Los Angeles County.

The more than 5,600-acre Upper Las Virgenes Open Space Preserve in the Simi hills at the western edge of the San Fernando Valley, is part of a critical ecological linkage and wildlife corridor between the Santa Monica Mountains and the ranges to the north.

Malibu Canyon Road, County Route N1, is a scenic two-lane connector that runs from US 101 near Calabasas to SR-1 in Malibu. From US 101 to Piuma Road, it is called Las Virgenes Road. South of that point to SR-1, it is Malibu Canyon Road.

This trailhead is located west of Calabasas and north of the Ventura Freeway (U.S. Route 101) on Las Virgenes Canyon Road, at the end of the road. Parking is provided, with a large informational display featuring the history, geography, and wildlife of the Preserve.
