Clinical Testing and Diagnosis for Hepatitis B
2024年3月6日 · The presence of the total anti-HBc antigen is needed to diagnose a patient with a hepatitis B infection. The results of the HBsAg, anti-HBs, and IgM anti-HBc tests indicate a patient’s type of hepatitis B and if they have developed immunity.
Retesting of patients who are positive for HBsAg shortly after hepatitis B vaccination at a later time is needed to determine the true HBV infection status. ‡Could result from: • Loss of anti-HBs after past resolved infection. HBV DNA is negative. • False-positive total anti-HBc, i.e., susceptible. HBV DNA is negative.

HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) is the first serologic marker to appear in a new acute infection, which can be detected as early as 1 week and as late as 9 weeks (range: 6-60 days), with an average of one month after exposure to the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Different serologic “markers” or combinations of markers are used to identify different phases of HBV infection and to determine whether a patient has acute or chronic HBV infection, is immune to HBV as a result of prior infection or vaccination, or is susceptible to infection. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg): A protein on the surface ...
HEPATITIS B SEROLOGY . Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg): A protein on the surface of the hepatitis B virus (HBV); it can be detected in high levels in serum during acute or chronic HBV infection. The presence of HBsAg indicates that the person is infectious. The body normally produces antibodies to HBsAg as part of the normal immune response ...
Hepatitis B virus: Screening and diagnosis in adults

Only one sample of blood is needed for a hepatitis B blood test, but the "Hepatitis B Panel" includes three parts. All three test results are needed to fully understand someone's hepatitis B status.
Interpreting Hepatitis B Serology - Geeky Medics
2021年10月29日 · Hepatitis B serological testing involves the measurement of several different HBV-specific antigens and antibodies, enabling differentiation between infection (acute or chronic) and immunity (from vaccination or cleared infection).
Confirmatory result indicates the presence of Hepatitis B surface antigen could not be confirmed by neutralization. These patients should be evaluated for other serologic markers and retested for HBsAg in 4-6 weeks.
