The ET44AC (Evolution Series Tier 4, 4,400 hp, AC traction) replaces the ES44AC model. These locomotives have been ordered by most of the Class I railroads in North America, including Union Pacific , CSX Transportation , Norfolk Southern , Canadian National Railway , Kansas City Southern and BNSF Railway .

2025年1月25日 · CPKC will receive some much-needed motive power help starting next year in the form of a 170-unit order of new locomotives from Wabtec. The railroad has been heavily spending on capacity work across its combined system to support new traffic and motive power has been in short supply to move tonnage across its network.

CPKC has ordered 170 new ET44ACs from GE; delivery will start in 2025 and run 2 or 3 yeas.

Wabtec’s Evolution Series ET44AC locomotive meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) stringent Tier 4 emission standards without use of any type of after-treatment, which allows the railroads to have significant savings through area infrastructure cost avoidance and reduced operational costs.

CPKC has purchased eight ET44AC locomotives from the Baffinland Railway. These are former GE demonstrator units in the GECX 20xx series. CN acquired a number of these units a few years ago that were given the nickname "Blueberry" by railfans.
