In recent decades the marimbula has appeared on recordings by musicians ranging from the Cuban roots music group Sierra Maestra to jazz great Herbie Hancock (on his Head Hunters album), from Martin Denny's Exotica to the Seattle Latin jazz combo Sonando.

∼Cloud Nine∼ Musical Instruments builds hammered dulcimers in many different models. These models can be broken down into two groups: Standard models and Chromatic models .
∼Cloud Nine∼ Marimbulas
Inspired by the African Marimbula, a large resonating chamber with tuned metal keys, the ∼Cloud Nine∼ Marimbula uses a different shape and tuned wooden keys to produce a sound similar to the plucked upright bass.

∼Cloud Nine∼ Musical Instruments The 16/16 Model. The 16/16 model is a step beyond the 15/14 standard model. This model plays in the keys of D, G, C, F, and A Major as well as relative minor keys.
∼Cloud Nine∼ The 15/14 Model - Hammered Dulcimers
∼Cloud Nine∼ Musical Instruments The 15/14 Model. This model offers three full octaves of range from D below Middle C. It plays in the major keys of D, G, C, F, A, as well as relative minor keys, and although it is not chromatic over all three octaves, it is fully chromatic in the mid range.
