Five Auckland Rugby players have been selected in the first All Blacks squad of 2022. Angus Ta'avao, Akira Ioane, Rieko Ioane, Caleb Clark and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck have all been named in the squad to face Ireland in the three test matches later in the year.

A new-look Auckland NPC team will be launched during an emotional occasion after their first preseason match this Friday 2nd August against Counties Manukau. The newly-named Auckland Gulls squad will present jerseys to those who have played an influential role in their rugby journeys thus far.

Ponsonby Rugby Club has claimed their 46 th Gallaher Shield title and an historic double victory, becoming the first club to win both the Auckland Rugby men’s and women’s premier finals in the same year.

The George Nicholson Cup has been the sole trophy for Auckland’s Senior Reserve grade (now the Premier Development) since its inception in 1962. That longevity is a fitting tribute to the man the cup is named for, since everything he did in rugby was a long-term affair.
