The book is a lot worse for this scene because Artax can talk. Atreyu is going to put Aurin on Artax and ride, but Artax explains that he was given the right to bear Aurin, not pass it to others. The scene ends much the same way as the movie, save that Artax requests that Atreyu walk away and not see the final moments.

2022年11月20日 · Artax was evidently profoundly affected by the Swamp of Sadness, eventually sinking into a deep depression. However, the Swamp had no effect whatever on Atreyu, which Artax thought was likely due to him wearing the Amulet. The NeverEnding Story aims to reflect the circle of loss, love, endings and beginnings through Bastian's final journey.

In the book they explain it. Atreyu is protected from the effects by Auryn. So no matter how sad he feels, he can't sink. In the book he attempts to remove it from his neck and put it around Artax's, but Artax tells him (yes, he can talk in the book) to keep it on his neck and go on without him, as he was the one entrusted with Auryn and the quest.

It's gonna be a mid-credits stinger. The camera slowly moves towards the Swamp of Sadness when a horse hoof suddenly and triumphantly breaks the surface. The movie ends with "Artax will return in NEVERENDING STORY 2" on the screen.

2022年12月8日 · The worst part about this scene is that the movie makes Artax's death HIS OWN FAULT. The horse only died because he "gave in to the sadness" of the swamp. Trauma X 2. Can't tell you how long it took me to realize that this particular life lesson (we shouldn't feel sad and it's our own "fault" if we do) was BS.

As a child, Artax really gutted me. As an adult, I'm more affected by the Rockbiter. Couldn't save his friends, couldn't save his home, couldn't save himself. Just sitting there, waiting to die. "They look like big, good, strong hands don't they? I always thought that's what they were."
