2012年2月7日 · I’m doing some load development for the .458 win mag. I’m using 350gr hornady round nose with accurate 2015(only powder that I could find locally). Loaded in groups of 3 so far I’m going to try 67.5(starting load from Hodgdon and a few other sources) and 69gr. Loaded these with a lee loader I scored a while back.

2017年3月23日 · But, for some reason, too me at least, the .458 Win Mag just seems "cooler" to have than a .45-70. Those huge long cartridges are interesting looking and kinda calling to me. I know that the .458 Win would use more powder than the .45-70, but it could shoot the same bullets as the .45-70. (Both are .458).

2024年3月8日 · A 458 win mag is of course all you'll ever "need", as it's external ballistics (500 grains at 2150ft/s) match the proven big game 450 and 470 nitro express cartridges. However, all else being equal, buy the Lott as it can fire both cartridges.

2018年2月20日 · My GASP, .458 2.4(45-90) is more of a compromise than your .458 2,5 and it has taken ele, leopard, and multiple Cape buff, none of which could read and therefore did not know that they were immune to modern bullets from old rifles.

FYI, while in Zambia I met another PH in camp who was very enthusiastic about Woodleigh's 480gr RNSP and FMJs, when he heard I was using a 458 Win Mag. I have a custom .458 WM with a 20” barrel built on a DWM Mauser action. Looking back through my load info, I have gone up to a max load of 75.0 gr of AA2230 with an average velocity of 2244 fps with Hornady 500 gr interlok’s.

2021年4月7日 · The .458 would win if you want an "elephant gun" or a dangerous game stopper. I have found that in the U.S., ammo for the .458 can usually be found cheaper. You will also find that .458 Win ammo can be found almost anywhere in the world where you might need a .458 Win. Ammo for a .416 Rem is harder to find and you will probably pay more.
