2021年3月14日 · The .223 Wylde was designed as a compromise to try bridge the difference between the .223 Remington and the 5.56x45 NATO to improve accuracy but still safely allow firing of 5.56x45 NATO. The operative difference between 5.56 NATO and commercial .223 Rem is in the chamber “length,” which is specifically the leade or throat area.

2016年6月5日 · The differences between .223, 5.56, and .223 Wylde are only the difference from the end of the case neck to engagement into the rifling, which is called the Leade. .223 is about .085 in, 5.56 is longer before the bullet meets the rifling at .162in, and the Wylde is in between at .120in. Small differences with potentially big consequences.

2014年7月2日 · 223 Wylde is said to alleviate this (or at least reduce) problem. It also allows best accuracy from both rounds. Most barrels chambered for 223 Wylde also have 1:8 twists to help stabilize the longer/heavier rounds. The combination of the twist and the chamber/leade geometry makes for a great shooter.

2020年2月12日 · I prefer .223 Wylde chamber if given the choice (most frequently offered in stainless barrels), that being said I doubt most will actually see a significant difference in either accuracy (precision) or reliability between .223 Wylde and 5.56 outside of the far edges of precision shooting and extreme environment, military use.

2018年10月7日 · Main difference between 223 Wylde and 5.56 is the distance in chamber's throat where the rifling begins. The leade (non-rifled free bore gap in throat) is longer in 5.56. This is done to alleviate excessive pressure in hotter ammo. In a standard .223 (non-Wylde) chamber, the rifling starts immediately at the throat.

You just need to measure the distance between the datum circle and the bolt face, and none of these chamber variations makes a real change in that distance.

2018年8月7日 · It can handle the higher pressure 5.56 MIL type ammo as well as regular .223 ammo and match ammo. .223 Wylde is a variation of the NATO chamber, having a tighter throat, yet safe at 5.56 pressures. With match ammo and a true match grade barrel it can be very accurate. I have a match barrel from a custom barrel maker in .223 Wylde with 1:8 twist.
