It forms an inverted triangle shape whose western side is contiguous with the desert of the Sinai Peninsula, and whose eastern border is the Arabah valley. The Negev has a number of interesting cultural and geological features.

This is my map of Southern Israel, showing the region known as the Negev. The first reference to this desert wilderness is in Genesis chapter 12, when Abram & Sarai move south from Bethel and Ai and camp in the northern part of the region.

The Negev Desert is roughly triangular in shape, with the city of Beer Sheva at its northern tip and the resort town of Eilat at the southern end. The landscape of the desert is distinguished by a large amount of erosion landforms, most notably canyons and deep valleys.

South of the Judean hills, the Negev desert, marked by cliffs and craters and covering about half the total area of Israel proper, extends down to the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
