The vessels of the neck must not only supply and drain cervical structures but also those in the head. The largest arteries in the neck are the common carotids . These arise from the brachiocephalic trunk on the right side and directly from the arch of the aorta on the left.

The neck carries the vital arteries transmitting blood to the brain, head and face. It also transmits the veins which drain the deoxygenated blood from the brain, head and face and return it to the right side of the heart.
