Mimics can be spawned by the player using the Chest Statue, even prior to Hardmode. However, Mimics spawned this way only drop the Mimic Banner. Mimics can also spawn naturally prior to Hardmode in worlds with the Remix Seed.

The Key of Light is a craftable item which spawns a Hallowed Mimic when placed in any slot of any empty Chest. The world must be in Hardmode and the only item inside the Chest must be a single Key of Light in order to work.

Summoned minions will always attack Mimics on sight, regardless of whether they have revealed themselves. This also works with any enemy-homing attacks, making finding them much easier. If one wishes to farm them just to get the Mimic Banner, they can set up a large room with at least one Chest Statue inside.
