In bash, we use. declare -A name_of_dictonary_variable so that Bash understands it is a dictionary. For e.g. you want to create sounds dictionary then, declare -A sounds sounds[dog]="Bark" sounds[wolf]="Howl" where dog and wolf are "keys", and Bark and Howl are "values". You can access all values using : echo ${sounds[@]} OR echo ${sounds[*]}

To capture output of a command or function, use command substitution: The_Output_Dictionary=$(Dictionary_Builder)

2018年12月14日 · Althought bash does not support nested arrays as others comment, if your bash version is 4.3 or newer, declare has an -n option to define a refence to the variable name which works as something like a C pointer.

Bash can't nest data structures, so the thing that would correspond to the list of dictionaries doesn't exist natively. Using a relatively recent Bash (4.3 or newer), we can achieve something similar with namerefs:

2016年9月21日 · It might be a language mismatch (e.g. bash doesn't have nested structures or a way to pass whole associative arrays to functions), but it could also be a poor design decision. Either way, I would spend some time rethinking.
