Abbotsford Convent is Australia’s largest arts and cultural precinct. We are home to over 120 studios, a gallery, cafes, restaurants, a radio station, a school, and an abundance of green open space.

From being and remaining a Kulin Nation meeting point, to its days as a closed monastic site, and today as Australia’s largest arts and cultural precinct, Abbotsford Convent’s history is incredibly rich, layered and filled with many people’s stories.

Today a beloved urban retreat for inner-Melbourne, and home to more than 100 arts and creative practitioners, Abbotsford Convent was once one of the largest Catholic complexes in Australia, and by 1901 was the largest charitable institution operating in the southern hemisphere.

Located within Abbotsford Convent multi-arts precinct, St Heliers Street Gallery delights audiences each year with high calibre works from artists across diverse career stages, contexts, and practices.

Here at Abbotsford Convent, we have 31 spaces for hire on any given day – indoor and outdoor. We make our spaces available for community engagement, independent artists, community groups, corporates and Not-For-Profits.
