FontForge-- An outline font editor that lets you create your own postscript, truetype, opentype, cid-keyed, multi-master, cff, svg and bitmap (bdf, FON, NFNT) fonts, or edit existing ones. Also lets you convert one format to another.

When drawing into a cubic font (PostScript) use the first set of arguments (with two control points – off curve points – between each on curve point). When drawing into a quadratic font (TrueType) use the second format with one control point between adjacent on-curve points.

A font editor is a progam designed to creat and modify fonts. The most obvious aspect is that it is a drawing program like FreeHand, Inkscape or Illustrator which lets you draw the outlines of your letters.

Appearance Editor¶ This dialog allows you to control the look and feel of FontForge. Almost all of the controls are explained in more detail in mouse hover tooltips but the full list of parameters is also in this document .

FontForge is primarily an outline font editor, but it does have some facility for editing bitmap (and greymap, or anti-aliased) fonts. A useful term here is a “strike”; a strike is one particular size of a bitmap font.

Download 2023-01-01 Release Installer (.exe) Right click, select Run as Administrative User; After installation, right click FontForge shortcut and select Run as Administrative User; You may find more recent development snapshots at the fontforgebuilds project.
