I recently got a 805mm focal length scope so I’m eager to get a closer view once Andromeda is back in view 👌🏼 as for shooting in bortle 8/9, the struggle is real!

2022年7月31日 · I can see it with a table top dob even in bortle 7. But realize that is just the galaxy core. In bortle 5 with your wide field, you can probably also see the other two galaxies in the same FOV as andromeda. One looks like a fuzzy star. The other like a small fuzzy patch a bit away from andromeda.

2023年11月24日 · If, for example, the alignment isn't precise, it becomes noticeable way faster at 600mm than with 14mm shots of the Milky Way. 2022年10月28日 · It's not a solution. We don't need to even think about Andromeda. There are ~10 11 planets in our own galaxy. If it can host an advanced civilization now, it could host one 100 million years ago -- that's just a tiny fraction of the age of the galaxy or of the universe. Yet it's enough time for light to traverse the galaxy over a thousand times.

Andromeda's diameter is 220,000 light years (twice the size of the Milky Way). Let x be your distance to the galaxy's center. Then, the angular size of Andromeda in degrees is: (220,000/x)*180/Pi. Setting that to 120° and solving gives a distance of 105,000 light years.
