A United Nations judge has been arrested and convicted for forcing a young woman to work for her as a slave in Britain. Lydia Mugambe, 49, said she had “immunity” when Thames Valley Police officers entered her home and arrested her under the Modern Slavery Act.

Mugambe was appointed to the UN's judicial roster in May 2023, three months after police were called to her address in Oxfordshire, according to her UN profile page.
