Something special went down in the desert outside of Las Vegas this weekend: two EVs took on the Mint 400 for the first time. Since the Mint 400 launched back in 1969, vehicles in this iconic desert endurance race have been powered by dead dinosaurs.

The Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 concept has successfully competed in the Mint 400, completing a grueling 73-mile lap while testing GM's off-roading performance.

Chevrolet is heading to the legendary Mint 400 desert race with the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck. According to Chevy, this special Silverado EV took five months to develop and uses 98% of production GM parts. The three-motor Silverado EV ZR2 will throw 1,100 hp at the 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 tires.

Chevrolet is betting on off-road performance to boost interest in the Silverado EV, which still sells much less than its combustion version.
