Poppy Atkinson, from Kendal, was killed on a sports pitch at Kendal Rugby Club after being hit by a car which crashed through fencing. A man was arrested and has now been released under further investigation.

Poppy Atkinson was killed in a collision with a car at Kendal Rugby Union Football Club, on Shap Road in the Cumbria town, before 5pm on Wednesday. A second girl, aged eight, was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
