Here’s your first proper look at the BMW Neue Klasse sedan that could become the i3
Group design director Adrian van Hooydonk confirmed the Neue Klasse series will start with the iX3 launch this year, before this one follows in 2026. They’ll have those fancy Gen6 batteries, a radical new electronic architecture, and an interior space that wouldn’t look out of place in a sci-fi movie.

BMW iX3 debuts in September as first Neue Klasse EV
The Neue Klasse iX3 entered pre-production in November at BMW's Debrecen, Hungary, plant. It's expected to borrow styling from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept unveiled in March 2024, and will be followed by a sedan—which might revive the BMW i3 name—based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept first shown in late 2023.

Speculation holds this future car may be called the “i3,” though BMW’s naming strategy in recent years has needed a road map and advanced degrees in hieroglyphics to decipher, meaning there’s every chance in the world this car could actually be called the “BMW e3.4iM NK xDrive” or something equally ridiculous.
BMW’s EV future will debut on a second-gen iX3 this September.
The electric crossover (based on last year’s concept) will be the first built on BMW’s Neue Klasse EV platform, which introduces an 800-volt architecture and new “Gen6” battery packs featuring higher density cylindrical cells for up to 30 percent better range.
