Amazon is eliminating users' ability to download Kindle books without WiFi, meaning you’ll want to move your library as soon as possible.

Starting Feb. 26, 2025 (via ZDNet) you will no longer be able to download copies of your Kindle books and use those files as a backup. After that date, you will only be able to download books via Wi-Fi or through the Amazon platforms.

Downloading your Kindle books one by one could take days. But with this clever step-by-step hack, you can grab 25 at a time and save your entire collection before Amazon locks it down this week.

Amazon is getting rid of a feature that existed within the Kindle ecosystem for over 10 years, but don’t panic (seriously, don’t). Beginning Feb. 26, you’ll no longer be able to download copies of Kindle e-books purchased through Amazon to save on a computer hard drive or to remove the DRM (digital rights management) side-load onto another e-reader not manufactured by Amazon.
