BREEZY POINT — After one season, Northern Lakes head coach Mike Randolph resigned, he confirmed in a phone interview with the Dispatch Tuesday, March 11. Randolph guided the Lightning to a 20-10-1 record this season, which included their first state tournament berth since 2021 and their first state tournament win in program history.

BREEZY POINT, Minn. (KVRR) -Former Duluth East head coach Mike Randolph has resigned as head coach of the Northern Lakes boys hockey team. He announced the news at the team banquet Monday, according to David La Vaque of the Star Tribune.

In the third period, Northfield’s Miles Kennelly made it 3-0 with a goal at 1:44. The Raiders made it 4-0 on an Oliver Benjamin goal. Geiger earned his second assist and his third point. Northern Lakes’ sophomore goalie Sam Suja recorded 19 saves and was replaced by Hunter Moreland for the last 8:30. Moreland tallied three saves.

The hockey coach spent 32 years and won two state titles on Duluth East’s bench plans to continue coaching the Class A cooperative program “as long as my wife allows me to.”

The No. 5-seeded Northern Lakes Lightning will play the No. 4-seeded East Grand Forks Green Wave in the Class 1A State Quarterfinals Wednesday, March 5, at Xcel Energy Center.

Minnesota's all-time winningest coach led the Lightning to its second state tournament in program history in his only year on the bench.

Randolph, who owns the most career victories as a Minnesota high school boys hockey coach with 727, led team to Class 1A state quarterfinals this season.
