The West Coast will see a final round of rain and snow Friday as a multi-day atmospheric river concludes and shifts eastward, becoming the nation's next big winter storm.

Heavy rain beginning Sunday afternoon caused some mudslides, and snow closed part of Interstate 5 near Los Angeles.

Because of the recent wildfires, parts of Southern California are vulnerable to mudslides, mudflows, and landslides. Ash and debris are created when trees and other objects are burned in wildfires, and this can cause the ground to become slick.

Weeks after wildfires that killed at least 29 people and destroyed entire neighborhoods, Southern California is facing another extreme-weather threat: Too much rain.
