Officers responded to a 911 call at 6:47 a.m. after a report that a man had entered a home and pistol-whipped two adults.

Both officers believed the suspect was firing at them, and fired back in response. However, authorities later learned the suspect was unarmed.

Des Moines police have identified the man who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the Highland Park neighborhood Saturday night.
