One sea otter lived for 28 years at an aquarium in the United States. However, the lifespan of wild sea otters is estimated to be around 10-15 years for males and 15-20 years for females.
Known to the whale watching community and his fans as ‘Ollie’, the infamous 13-year-old sea otter has been living out his life among the kelp at Race Rocks ecological reserve for over a decade.
But it’s not just staying afloat that’s key to a life at sea – groups of otters hold hands and tangle themselves in kelp forests to make sure they don’t drift apart.
