She had challenged her conviction and a 5-month sentence in a defamation case filed by LG VK Saxena in 2001. Social activist Medha Patkar appeared before the court via videoconferencing.

Patkar was granted a five-month jail term for a 23-year-old defamation case in July, 2024. The court also directed her to pay ₹10 lakhs as compensation to LG for damaging his reputation.
