Union Berlin’s week went from bad to worse Sunday with a 1-0 loss at home to last-placed Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga. Armin Gigović scored before the break for the visitors, finishing off a counterattack started by team captain Timo Becker and involving Japan forward Shuto Machino.

Holstein Kiel claimed a first ever Bundesliga victory away from home on Sunday and with the 1-0 at fellow strugglers Union Berlin left last place in the table. Armin Gigovic scored the winner in the 42nd minute between the legs of Union defender Diogo Leite after being set up by Shuto Machino.

Kiel find themselves 8 points adrift of Bundesliga safety and with just two league wins since early November. It’s now or never for their survival hopes.

Freiburg were held 0-0 at Augsburg on Sunday as they missed returning into the top four of the Bundesliga and became the only visiting team not to win this weekend. Chances were sparse in a match between defensively strong teams although Augsburg almost stole a stoppage time victory when Steve Mounie hit the left post.
