1894年，鲍耶这位非欧几何的拓荒者离开人世34年后，匈牙利数学物理学会在偏僻小镇的荒郊找到了鲍耶的坟墓，他们在这座坟墓上竖立起鲍耶的雕像，并把他传世的唯一论文《空间的绝对几何学》列入世界数学经典之作，藉以纪念他创立非欧几何的不朽功绩。作为非欧几何创始人之一的他生前穷苦潦倒，学术思想无人重视，去世三十多年后，终于和高斯、罗巴切夫斯基一起，被数学界公认为非欧几何的创始人之一。
