TEXT stores character data of variable length up to two gigabytes. SAS supports the TEXT data type provided in SYBASE; however, SAS only allows a maximum of 32,767 bytes of character data.
Leave the Length as 8. Leave the Type as Numeric. Select Initialize. The Enter Numeric Expression window appears. Select Character functions. The Select Data window for character functions appears.
