For the first time in nearly a decade, Florida wildlife officials are considering a black bear hunt. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in December asked its staff to come up with proposals for a possible hunt as officials pointed to what they consider a now-flourishing bear population.

Black bear hunting could come back to Florida. State wildlife officials are currently considering different plans for another season.

The number of black bears in Florida has grown significantly since the early 2000s. Some claim the state is overcrowded with the animal
