New York officials have started to fire state prison guards who failed to comply with a deal to end their illegal labor strike, which is now in its third week.

Gov. Kathy Hochul's primary response to the strikes has been to send 5,300 New York National Guard troops —some of whom are too young to even be hired as corrections officers— into the prisons to conduct the dangerous work of those on strike which is a strategy that has already cost taxpayers $25 million, according to Bray.
