The family of a girl who died following a crash on a sports pitch in Cumbria have paid tribute to their “beautiful” 10-year-old.

Poppy Atkinson was killed in a collision with a car at Kendal Rugby Union Football Club, on Shap Road in the Cumbria town, before 5pm on Wednesday. A second girl, aged eight, was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The family of Poppy Atkinson praised her as a young girl who "touched so many lives" and that it was easy to see how her "spirit and passion" for football was "infectious"
