I don't know if my ? Went through? However it is concerning getting to Anan on July 3rd, we are arriving @10:00 am & the ship tours are sold out! I called Ak Adventures & they were not very helpful or accommodating in helping (our party of 4) who are desperate to get there on our only trip to Ak) to find any alternative to visit this wonder! Hi Cameron. Wrangell is a small town with a very limited number of cruise ship visits. In fact we don't have any stops by the large ships. Our tour operators are set up mainly for independent travelers. This is what makes us unique as a port along the Inside Passage. Guides and staff are very local, and guests experience more of Alaska as we Alaskans see it. The few stops we get from the Regatta and Seven Seas Navigator are important to us economically. In order to attract these boats, we have all joined together to offer the ship enough seats to entice them to visit Wrangell. The Anan Wildlife observatory is a limited access venue, even to locals. Only 60 people are allowed in each day and only 38 of these 60 may be commercial permits. Permits are distributed by lottery to operators with a history of operations at Anan. This includes operators in both Wrangell and Ketchikan (access by floatplane.) Yes, it's boondoggle, but we cannot skirt these regulations. Although July 3 is pre permit season, we are still limited both in the number of seats available on the boats and also by the number of clients we may take to Anan at one time. I suggest you contact the excursion desk as soon as you are on board (or sooner) and place your group on a waitlist. Alternately, you may contact a floatplane operation in Ketchikan and arrange a tour from there. Hope this helps. Sylvia
