Besides walking across and looking over the sides, there is not much to do on the pier. But the beach below is nice. I am sure it gets crowded in the summer, but the winter time was so nice because t…WrldTraveler17的完整评论

One of the oldest wooden piers left, an it has always been a good experience. Helpful employees, lots of fishing supplies and gifts. One rod allowed. Parking can be a bit of a challenge.647eddiee的完整评论

I don’t drink alcohol so I’m not sure, however there are a couple of bars on the boardwalk, so I’m sure you can. Most of the shops were closed during the off season. There are a few scattered about when we were there in April. Several have signs stating closed for the season. I assume they start closing around Labor Day, not positive. The water gets pretty chilly there, but in surrounding areas there is quite a bit to do. Several shops are open in town headed toward Wilmington and in downtown Wilmington in the RiverFront are tons of little shops, restaurants and tours available. Not far from the beaches.

The pier is still standing...but a small portion of the railing is gone on one side, and quite a large portion of railing gone on the other side. It is now in the process of being repaired. There are rumors going around that it will be finished by this weekend. Hopefully, those rumors are true.
Is there anywhere close to the pier that has free parking? Including beach access

In addition K Avenue, there is parking down the boardwalk (in front of the beachfront community center) along Atlantic Avenue. It's true that spaces fill up quick. It's likely best to get there by 10 AM at the latest. The crowd thinks a bit after 2 PM, and then picks up quickly again after 5 PM. It will be very difficult to find a parking spot after 6 PM most evenings. If you are looking for a "slow" day in-season, Sundays are almost always best.
is there fishing on the pier & is there other things to do near the pier?

The gentleman above answered beautifully. My husband and I really enjoy the ocean front swings they have right beside the pier. Jack Mackerel's is one of our favorite seafood restaurants and everything is within walking distance. The Pancake House further down is also another great restaurant. I will add that Carolina Beach is also close by with a ocean front Broadwalk with public access to beach area. Britt's Donuts is State famous and good. They have some restaurants and arcade. Fudge Boat is also good.
